That's according to a series of articles, published in The Lancet, which have looked at this very topic. The audio news team went to meet some of the authors: Graham Thornicroft, of Kings College London, who talked about the size of the problem Vikram Patel, of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, who discussed measures to take and choices that need to be made; Shekhar Saxena, from the World Health Organisation, who has calculated the costs involved.
