Financing infectious disease services in hospitals: a common public good.

No other service loses as much money as the infectious disease clinical service in hospitals. Infectious disease consultations have lower reimbursement rates compared with other types of consultations. The precarious financing of infectious diseases is related to patients, physicians, and health systems.
