Professor Clare Gilbert of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine has received the 2012 Lighthouse International Pisart Vision Award in recognition of her work on preventing blindness among children, especially in middle- and low-income countries. Sarah Maxwell asked her about her many achievements, including preventing blindness of prematurity and identifying treatable conditions such as cataract in children to restore sight in patients previously considered beyond help.
